Military family of 5

Hi, We%26#39;re a military family with 3 kids - 2, 4 1/2, and 11 - looking some family/kid friendly ideas for a long summer weekend at Ft. Jackson/ Columbia. My husband is going to be at Ft. Jackson for 5 weeks for training in June %26amp; we%26#39;re going down to visit him. I%26#39;ve never been to Ft. Jackson - one of the few bases I%26#39;ve not visited at this point. :) Any help/ advice on where to stay %26amp; things to do would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Kids would enjoy the Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens.

If baseball fans, there is a minor league team (Columbia Blowfish) and college Univ. of SC.

Well, for starters, Ft Jackson has a water park on post! That%26#39;ll keep you going for a while. And, the zoo is nice; also, there%26#39;s EdVenture - a children%26#39;s activity center/museum - here%26#39;s the web site:

Ft Jackson has a relatively new family lodging facility - not sure how reservations are made, or, priorities (PCS/TDY/Leave, etc),

I grew up within 18 miles of Ft Jackson, and other than Basic Training in 1965, was never stationed there in 29+ years - retired in the area now, and the post has changed.... you%26#39;ll have a good visit.

Thanks for the outstanding info.
