Fishing for Dummies in Myrtle Beach!!

Looking for ANY fishing advice for the Myrtle Beach area in late March. I%26#39;m an avid fisherman in Upstate New York, but have yet to try MB Ocean fishing. Equipment, bait, favorite spots.. any sort of advice would be much appreciated!

Fishing for Dummies in Myrtle Beach!!

Numerous fishing piers where you can obtain seasonal baits. We go a lot in the spring and fall shoulder seasons and see surf fishermen a lot. Never seem to catch much while we wre there, but according to articles in local paper, a lot is caught at different ttimes of year, surf and pier.

Head north to Little River, Calabash etc and take a half day boat out for great bottom fishing. Piers are an option, not sure what is running in late March, but you can always catch small sand sharks etc.

My husband caught a small hammerhead shark off of the Surfside pier this past August using one of their rental poles and cut bait. It was the total highlight of his trip.

Don%26#39;t do the 1/2 day trip! If you%26#39;re an avid fisherman and love the salt water....take the 10 or 12 hour trip! If you can%26#39;t afford a private charter or don%26#39;t have friends to share that cost....you can do the head boat bottom fishing trip for around $100 for the day. Get there EARLY and get a position on the back of the bost staked out. Use another $25 to tip the mate as soon as you see him and you%26#39;ll slay some snapper, grouper, trigger fish, grunt, black bass (larger than the closer inshore model), scamp, jacks... They%26#39;ll also put out some live live bait rigs and that $25 tip will land you a live bait reel...for possible king mackerel, wahoo or a nice dolphin fish or 2. Both Little River and Calabash have nice head boats....go to the fishing fleet websites and study them and plan the trip.

If you%26#39;re taking 2-3-4 more people....I know of a great Captain in Southport NC. 50 minutes north of North Myrtle Beach. He%26#39;s a great guy and an excellent fisherman. He can really slay the bottom fish or whatever you want. His boat is not really large but plenty big enough!!! His website...%26gt;%26gt;

Some other excellent fishermen and Captains in Ocean Isle, NC.... 30 minute north of NMB are....

Watch the weather forecast and keep a check on NOAA. The captains will advise you well; they won%26#39;t chance anything and they are pros. There%26#39;s nothing like that ocean 50 miles out; it makes me feel better just thinking about it. They have all the equipment needed and different ones have suggestions on what to bring. Pier fishing is ';fishing';; boat fishing is ';catching';!
