a february vacation in Beaufort

A year back we spent part of February in Myrtle Beach and this winter were considering Hilton Head until Beaufort was mentioned to us.

Having never been there , I am wondering if a month in February %26#39;08 is a worthwhile trip. We would have a car to drive but need suggestions about areas to look for rentals . VRBO has several rentals available , but we don%26#39;t know areas. Any suggestions about where to look , where to dine , etc would be appreciated.

Instead of Beaufort, look at Fripp Island and Harbor Island. Many rentals of various kinds available and winter rates are much less than ';beach months';.

If you do rent on those islands, you%26#39;re still only about 15-20 minutes from downtown Beaufort, and there are grocery stores on Lady%26#39;s Island, which is the first island down from Beaufort on Rt. 21. Also on Lady%26#39;s Island is Barbara Jean%26#39;s Restaurant, which is a nice place to eat (but watch out if you have food allergies.)

Sandwiched between Harbor and Fripp Islands is the Hunting Island State Park, with a beach and lighthouse as the main attractions. It might be worth a visit if the lighthouse is open so you can climb to the top, so call ahead.

Well, I was born and raised in Beaufort, and Feburary should be an ok time to go. Water too cold for swimming, but if you like to fish..ok

no crabs that time of year, too cold to go shrimping but weather

nice. Rentals on the islands-Fripp, Hunting...lots of places to eat in town.

Crazy how big the town has gotten.

Is Sgt White%26#39;s still open?

Sgt. White%26#39;s is still open - we just had a terrific lunch there in late fall on a day trip to Beaufort. What a great place for a lunch of good old Southern Barbecue. ENJOY!

Sgt. White%26#39;s is still open and the business, not the building, is for sale. He plans to stay on with the new owner to teach them how to cook the way he does.
