hotel next to Blockade Runner

HI.. There is a hotel to the south of the Blockage Runner in Cherry Grove.. can someone tell me the name..(or is it all the blockade runner)

Friends of my family used to own the place years and years ago.. and I used to go there all the time. Just trying to remember the name..

The building to the south of Blockade Runner is now Peppertree Ocean Club. Not sure of original name of the place. Way it was explained to me, it was a motel/hotel. Gutted by hurricane. Not sure which one.

Peppertree Vacation Clubs bought it and converted the rooms into condos and sold them as time shares. Eventually converted the club into a points set up where you get points each year and exchange your points for stays.

Past few years it has changed hands a few times. Equvest bought out Peppertree. Then Fairfield bought Equvest. Fairfield went in with Wyndham.

Today the old Peppertree properties have been bought up by an outfit called Festiva. Outfit started by two former Peppertree officers.

We%26#39;ve been along for the ride since it was Peppertree. Still not sure if Festiva is a good deal. All we can do is wait and see.

Ocean Club is our favorite place to stay. Yes it%26#39;s a bit dated but that%26#39;s fine with us. The building is just the right size and the convenience of being within walking distance to Sea Mountain Hwy makes it perfect for us.

Thanks for the info. The original name was The Cabana Terrace. (remember after seeing a hotel called The Cabana Shores in Myrtle Beach) (if it%26#39;s the same place). I%26#39;m trying to remember the owners.. but they were golfing friends with my parents, and I think one of the sons dated my oldest sister ..

i%26#39;m just really amazed at how the place has ';grown-up'; over the years. Almost too bad. We visited a few years ago and stayed at the old Helms Vista hotel closer to main Street in Ocean Drive. Thats probably torn down for one of the mega buildings to replace it.

As a teenager I used to go to the Spanish Galleon and Fat Jacks right at the top of Main Street. That would have been about 30years ago. (I%26#39;m dating myself). My family had a house on 6th Ave north.. it%26#39;s still there, and still owned by the family who purchased it from us. Wish we had never sold it.. oh well.

memories..

The Spanish Galleon is still there but a new building....nothing like it was back then. Peppertree was the Cabana Terrace. I saw your other post....you friends could get a condo as cheap as a motel room and nicer too. Pop did give a god suggestion on oceanfront motel....there just aren%26#39;t many any more. The land cost too much/too valuable for motels.

Some of these are oceanfront and some are not.

We used to stay at the Cabana Terrace every year..fantastic place. The manager at that time was Larry Leagans...maybe he was the owner too...I%26#39;m not sure.
