Myrtle Beach: Camelot By The Sea: ';Fantastic Stay at the Camelot';

julywishes, Ohio

My family of 7 have just returned from a week at the Camelot By the Sea. The hotel is great and we experienced such great hospitality from the front desk. We were to check in at 3pm on sunday, August 5th but we arrived early. We had walked around to the beach and played in the ocean for an hour but it was already 97 degrees by 10am and we were hot. We walked up to the front desk and asked if our room might be ready. Of course it was not but we tried. :). Then the front desk clerk (dressed in velvet costume, poor thing) offered us parking passes and towels to enjoy their pools until the room was ready. I was shocked that they did this and my 5 children were excited. We retrieved our car from the Bummz parking lot across the street and parked on the 2nd floor as directed and then changed in the bathrooms by the store on the lower floor. The parking deck is tight and if other drivers watch out for eachother it is manageable. Big Ford F250s and my Explorer fit fine but if you have luggage on the roof you will not be able to drive thru because of the low roof in the parking deck. There is additional parking across the street for vehicles with luggage carriers.

We went to the pools and were very pleased. There is a lazy river, a 4ft deep pool, hot tub %26amp; 1ft baby pool under roof and then there is a 2-51/2 ft pool, baby pool, hot tub %26amp; playsand area out in the sun. We just loved the lazy river. Everyday we visited and were always able to find chairs at any time. The pools were cleaned everyday first thing in the morning. The pools do collect sand through out the day but if everyone rinsed off at the showers located there it would be less. The front desk will give you beach towels if you ask.

Around noon we changed again to go get something to eat and found a great restaurant on 23rd (I believe) called Uncle John%26#39;s (besides Dixie Stampede) It was the best food we had all week there and we also ate at Hooters, Fundruckers, Dick%26#39;s %26amp; Johnny Rockets.

We got back to the hotel at 1:30pm and decided to check with the front desk and our room was ready. We had a 2 bedroom condo on the 8th floor and it was really nice. I was surprised because of some of the reviews here but everything was clean. Housekeeping came everyday with fresh towels. Our sheets were only removed one time during our 6 night stay though but I expected that being the norm with hotels in Myrtle Beach. I am including pictures of the rooms.

After being there for a few days we found it was easier to park at the lower levels and take the elevator to our room then it was to drive all 8 floors (1/3 of a mile to 8th floor).

Check in was easy (we paid in full when we booked) and check out was easy. This is a nonsmoking hotel but I never saw any security guards until 11pm everynight and he was just smoking on the steps to the beach. The pool area is locked down everynight at 10 pm so if you are visiting the ocean after this time you will have to walk around the building to get back in.

There is also a snack stand by the outside pool where a young lady has sodas, liqueur, smirnoffs, beer and snack food. The snack bar closed everyday at 5pm.

I am probably leaving alot of stuff out so if you have any questions leave a message and I will try to answer promptly.

Reviews of things we did:

Captain Dick%26#39;s in Murell%26#39;s Inlet (30 minutes away):

Parasailing and the Dolphin Tour were great and so worth every penny we spent there. While parasailing at 8:30pm my daughter and I saw a hammerhead shark right near the surface. LOL, we were a little afraid to be dipped after seeing that. Once we got to the boat the captain explained that the sharks come to the surface at dusk to feed.

We were only on the boat for 10 minutes during the dolphin tour when dolphins were spotted so we were able to spend an hour watching them.

Ripley%26#39;s:

The Aquarium at Broadway at the Beach was fantastic. The museum, haunted house and 3D movie were all located on Ocean Blvd. The musuem was great with all of the different things to see. The haunted house and the 3D movie were not worth the money at all.

Sling Shot on Ocean Blvd was cool but would never do it again. The sling shot sent you up 200 feet in the air.

MagiQuest at Broadway was not what I expected for my 3 girls. They could not do the quests because it was so loud in there you could not hear anything it told you to do. I would do it on a slow day if they ever have one.

Dixie Stampede (near the Carolina Opry on Rt 17,) was a great show and the food was yummy even though you had to use your fingers. We sat on the North side and won 7 challenges against the South who won 3. My little girl was even blown a kiss and a red carnation was thrown at her. It made her day.

Nascar Speedway was nice according to my husband and 4 of the kids. I had to leave because my youngest passed out from the heat. It was the hottest day down there with a heat index of 118 degrees and even though everyone was chugging water my little one succumbed to the heat. Thank you to the 2 ladies that helped my baby girl.

It was a great vacation even if it was the hottest week down there all summer but we would do it all over again. I wish I could go on and on but my hand is hurting.

Camelot By the Sea, 8/5 to 8/11

Glad you had a great trip!

We were there the same week and it was HOT! Glad your little girl is ok.

I realize your post was six or so months ago but just wanted to chime in for others who might search on topics you discussed in your trip report.

Thank you for posting your trip report, I was searching on dolphin tours and your reports adds another checkmark to the PLUS side for my family going on a cruise in May/June.

I could not agree with you more on the noise level inside MagiQuest. My wife and I went during the week in September (no kids, just us) and we could not believe how the noise interfered with your playing the game itself. I was extremely disappointed in the cost to fun ratio and will not suggest others go because of it.

Thanks again for your post.
