I need help in deciding where to stay on HHI. My husband and I have our own kayaks and would like to use them instead of paying to rent on HHI. Are there places we can stay to access some of the popular kayaking waterways, or do you have to go through a guide service? Thanks in advance!

check out bluffton and the may river. great spot for yaks.
There is a public dock at the NPS preserve on Pinckney Island. This is the island you go over before getting to Hilton Head.
Also If you stay in Palmetto Dunes, you have a 13 mile lagoon to yak through.
