Myrtle Beach vs. North Myrtle Beach

Having never traveled to SC, can someone give me a quick lesson as to the difference between the two areas? Which area is more walkable (shopping, restaurants, etc.)? We are specifically coming to the area to visit Hard Rock Park when it opens, but am not sure what area to stay?

Myrtle Beach vs. North Myrtle Beach

The ';Grand Strand'; is aprox. 50-60 miles long. Drive times not as bad as you might think. Most major attractions are near center of Strand. Staying south or north of MB your average drive is 10-15 miles.

Starting at the north boundary you have Little River. Isn%26#39;t oceanfront but home to marinas and restuarants.

North Myrtle Beach is seperate city from Myrtle Beach. Made up of four beach sections. Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Cresent and Windy Hill. Main route through town is RT-17. Maybe a mile or so in from oceanfront Means little traffic around oceanfront rentals. Nice family atmosphere.

Restuarants and such are spread all over. Some are walking distance from oceanfront units but most are out on RT-17.

South end of NMB you have Barefoot Landing shopping and dining complex.

Few miles farther south you have Kings Road area. Area is in between NMB and MB. Not sure. Might actually be in MB city limits. Some nice properties out in there along Shore Drive and Lakeshore Drive.

Move on to the south and you%26#39;re into Myrtle Beach. North end of MB has some nice properties. Not real congested. Get on down into main part of MB and it gets more congested and crowded.

Broadway At The Beach shopping and entertainment center is just a few blocks inland. Like NMB there are some places in walking distance along oceanfront but most places you will be driving.

To the south of MB is Surfside and Garden City. Like NMB the oceanfront front is far enough away from RT-17 you don%26#39;t get a lot of traffic. Fewer large buildings. Less crowds.

Hard Rock Park is at south end of MB right beside RT-501. More or less between Surfside and MB. Unless you%26#39;re planning on spending everyday there, beach location wouldn%26#39;t make that big of a difference. Maybe 15 minute drive from middle of MB. Using RT-31 maybe 30 minutes from NMB.

RT-501 has been traffic headache for couple years. The HR Park isn%26#39;t going to help. Could stay away from there and just deal with traffic the day(s) you go to park.

Myrtle Beach vs. North Myrtle Beach

pop, that was one of the best and least complicated posts I%26#39;ve seen on here in regard to helping people understanding the different areas.

Just for fun... check this overview of the area. You may scroll back and forth and get a good idea of what it looks like. Some areas are just more crowded than others.

We are considering staying at Marina Inn at Grande Dunes. What should the traffic be like from there to the park? Is there much around there to walk to or drive to with ease?

Thanks for your help.
