Decent lodging in/near Charleston for under $100?

I will be visiting Charleston in mid-April, and am looking for a hotel room at a reasonable price. It doesn%26#39;t need to be downtown, but we really want to be in an area that feels safe. Anybody have a recommendation for a place that%26#39;s under $100 a night? It has to have two beds, be clean and safe, but doesn%26#39;t have to be fancy. A fridge would be a plus! Thanks for any help.

Mid-april is THE busiest/most popular time of year. I%26#39;d recommend checking out some of the newer hotels closer to the airport and Tanger Outlet - which is an easy 10 minute drive on the interstate to downtown Charleston.

Also contact the cvb visitor center or their website.

Good luck and enjoy your visit.

You might try ';renting by owner'; as you could probably find a one bedroom villa on one of the islands for around $100/nt. You%26#39;d get plenty of space plus a full size kitchen.

While April is typically a busy rental month, Easter comes in March this year.

Bohicket Marina on Seabrook Island has condos with water views but not on the ocean. Here%26#39;s is one on vrbo.com #93262 that might do.

*Disclaimer* I have no affiliation with this property, just one of the many rentals out there.

I would highly recommend the Shem Creek Inn - it is located right outside of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant, which is a very nice area. The drive back over the bridge into downtown Charleston only takes about 5 - 10 minutes (and it%26#39;s a beautiful drive!). We have stayed there in April for only $99 per night - it%26#39;s in a great location, and just recently remodeled. Try to get a room on the creekside - that way you can sit on the balcony and watch all of the shrimp boats come in!

Thanks for the suggestions (and please keep them coming!) A one-bedroom condo would be delightful, but those usually only have one bed, and we need two. I will check on the Shem Creek Inn.

Most one bedroom villas have a sleeper sofa in the living area. But gook luck finding one for less than a 100 a night during that time period. Most also have a mimimum stay of 3 to 7 days.

In the off season, most owners will be flexible about the minimum stay if they have availability. However, you might be hit with an extra cleaning charge because of the quick turnover. Complete cleaning probably runs the owner about $75 per stay, whether that stay is for only one night or for fourteen nights. You can do the math!

For properties close to Charleston (20 minutes) and at the beach, look into rentals on Folly Beach. (I am a HUGE fan of Kiawah, Seabrook, and Bohicket Marina, but you will be a 40 minute drive from downtown.)

As has been noted, one bedroom condos usual sleep a maximum of four people, with the sleeper sofa in the living area and a king or queen bed in the bedroom. You will have not only a fridge, but also a complete kitchen. You can save tons of $$$ by preparing some meals at home.

I think u would have a hard time finding anything for that price, because that is peak tourist season, and usually alot is booked full. You may be able to find a place cheaper by the airport, (which is not a good location) so if you do end up booking up that way please be extra careful, with anything up near North Charleston. We usually stay in Mt pleaseant and love it, but again pricing is higher that time of year.

On the above recommendation, I checked out the Shem Creek Inn. Looks nice, but the rooms on their website (especially for creekside) In late March are $165-199. Can you give more information on how you got a room there for $99?

Thanks for your help!

I have lived in and visited Charleston many times. The best rate that you will find will most likely be in the area of $125. West Ashley will be your best bet.

I appreciate all the input and advice. Looks like we%26#39;ll need to pay a bit more than we%26#39;d like. Looking on vrbo.com, I%26#39;ve come across the Sea Cabin condos on Isle of Palms, for about $125 a night. They have one bedroom, plus a set of bunks near the entryway. Anybody have any comments about staying there? Thanks in advance.
