Best Seafood in Charleston or Mt Pleasent?

Calling on all the travlers and locals where is the best seafood restruant in Charleston or Mt Pleasent? And why do you pick this restruant? Hubby is on a quest for really good seafood on our vacation.

Best Seafood in Charleston or Mt Pleasent?

It honestly would be easier to suggest places not to go - the list would be very short. What is your favorite seafood, and how do you like it prepared? (Shrimp, Mahi, Tuna, Salmon, Scallops, Oysters, etc - and - Grilled, Fried, Baked, ';encrusted';, stirred into pasta, Blackened, etc). Oh - also - what is your entree price limit? That%26#39;ll help us give suggestions!

Best Seafood in Charleston or Mt Pleasent?

For a really casual seafood dinner that could be fun with the kids, I recommend ';The Wreck of the Richard and Charlene'; on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant. The Wreck is located almost at the mouth of Shem Creek, where you can watch the commerical shrimpers coming in. The restaurant itself has a ';fish shack'; sort of appearance. The menu offers variations on the lowcountry basics: shrimp, flounder, scallops, oysters, and crab. They are famous for their fried seafood, which is not at all ';greasy';, but they will do broiled as well. You will want to walk out on the deck, either to enjoy a drink before dinner or just to watch the sun set over the Cooper River. See - http://www.wreckrc.com/

Downtown, our favorite seafood restaurant is Hank%26#39;s Seafood, on Hayne St. near the Market. They have a very complete menu with all kinds of wonderful selections. Go early, as the place gets crowded and their can be a wait. See - http://hanksseafoodrestaurant.com/

Both of these restaurants are open for dinner only, and both open at 5:30 pm. Hank%26#39;s accepts reservations. The Wreck does not take reservations; but we have never had a problem - especially early in the evening.

Good point here is more information.

looking for:

1) Price- any prices up to limit of 200.00 per meal for 2 adults and

2 children.

2) Food- good quality, fresh and cooked well. Good amount of food for the price. My husband is enjoys his food.

3) We like (Shrimp, Oysters, Shark, Scallops, Crabs, gumbo and soups.) We like it fried, grilled, steamed and over pasta.

4) We want a family place not formal dinning.

We want to avoid places that have over cooked food, small amounts and high prices. We do not mind paying a good price but want good food and a friendly place for us and the children to enjoy our meal.

Thank You for any help you can give in advising us for finding a good place.

kiawahvilla,

Thank you for the advise we will check these out, they sound like fun and the shem Creek sounds like a place the kids will like too.

Based on the additional information, you will definitely enjoy The Wreck of the Richard and Charlene. There are always lots of families with children there.

One more place you%26#39;re sure to enjoy with a family is Locklear%26#39;s. They have something for everyone; are very reasonably priced, and have delicious food and wonderful service. It is near the Boulevard Diner (opposite side of the street) near Shem Creek. Another place I have to recommend is Fonduely Yours in Mt. Pleasant (past Shem Creek, on the way to Sullivan%26#39;s Island just after Oriental Garden). Great family atmosphere. If you bring an old fondue pot one meal is free. They have a special running right now that an entire meal (appetizer, meal, dessert and a bottle of wine) is $19.99 per person with coupon from one of the local papers (it might have been the CityPaper). Well worth it - especially if the weather is bad and you have time to kill (because the whole dining experience can take 2+ hours).

Sorry - I should have said that Fonduely yours is not a seafood restaurant but you can fondue your own seafood. It was just a suggestion for a great family place to go for a unique, delicious experience.

Hello, again!

Since the discussion has moved beyond seafood, here is another family place, only about 10 minutes from your hotel and on the way into Charleston, via I-526 to Rte 17:

';Bessinger%26#39;s Barbecue'; does great SC pulled pork and vegetable sides. They, also, are reported to have an excellent hamburger. They are open for lunch and for dinner. You can get an individual meal in The Sandwich Shop, or visit the all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet. See - www.bessingersbbq.com

how about a shovel full of oysters from bowens island? not exactly upper crust epicurian but delicious baked oysters there on james island. unique, tasty, delicious nad you%26#39;ll leave full.

I actually just had dinner at The Wreck...definitely some of the freshest seafood you can get...and a ';locals'; spot...I always run into friends when I%26#39;m there. Just so you know the majority of their food is fried (some things have a grilled option). Remember to take cash as they do not accept credit cards. Enjoy!
