Unforgetable sights to see Charleston

My husband and i will be taking a road trip to get away from the cold. We are from Ct. We will be spending three days in Charleston and staying at the Holiday Inn in the historic district. What are the absolute sights we sholdn%26#39;t miss?

Unforgetable sights to see Charleston

I%26#39;d try to do as many of the following, weather permitting:

carriage ride; historic tour; house and/or garden tour; just walking through the residential district south of Broad St; Ft. Sumter Harbor Cruise; shopping in the City Market (Market St).

Since you said you were going on a road trip, you%26#39;ll have a car. If you%26#39;re interested in great gardens and beautiful homes, we have several notable nearby plantations such as Magnolia, Middleton, Boone Hall, and Drayton Hall.

I assume you%26#39;re coming relatively soon so you might want to look at the orgnaized House and Garden tours run by the Historic Society.

Click on ';Things to Do'; and take some notes!

Welcome to Charleston - ENJOY!

Unforgetable sights to see Charleston

I agree with culture, but I would add a trip over the Arthur J. Ravenel Bridge to Patriot%26#39;s Point - the Yorktown tour is awesome!! Also, take a trip out to see the Angel Oak on John%26#39;s island - it is beautiful!!

I loved Magnolia, Boone and Middleton (the most pricey)planatations, the carriage tours (combine with a harbour tour %26amp; save money) the flea market and farmers market in the sqaure on saturday morning, and aimless wandering in the historic battery..ahhh the romance of it all!

Most anything you do or see in Charleston is unforgetable. My wife and I just like waking around the historic district looking at the homes and gardens and of course the shopping. A trip to Charleston would be a sin without taking in at least one of the beautiful plantations.

I would tour all the historic homes in Charleston, take a carriage ride, take in a plantation and maybe an evening ghost tour.

First, stop at the visitor%26#39;s center (on the right side of Meeting St. before you get to your hotel. Pick up a map and purchase passes (I forgot what they are called) for under $40 each. This will get you into four or five (I forgot) of the six historical homes open for tours in the historic district, the museum, Drayton Hall and some of Middleton Place (this plantation and Drayton Hall are approx. 15-20 minutes from the historical district but close to each other). This is a great deal, since most of the homes are at least $10 each to tour.

I did the Fort Sumter tour, and to me, it was a waste of time. The Fort is destroyed and only some ruins are left. Although the short talk they give was pretty interesting. If it were me, I%26#39;d skip it.

But...my all time CANNOT MISS Charleston ';to do'; is tour Calhoun Mansion on Meeting Street less than a block from the Battery Park on the left (maybe #10?). Anyway, it costs $15 and you get to tour most of the first and second floors - it%26#39;s breathtaking. Gorgeous architecture, thousands of anqtiques from all of the world and every different era - words cannot describe it. By far the best.

Have a great time and enjoy the fabulous food!

Take a walk through the Battery neighborhood. There are so many wonderful and interesting old houses located in that area. Also, you must visit the slave market where many vendors sell crafts, jewelry, etc.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn last year and am in Charleston right now at a different hotel. The Holiday Inn has such wonderful concierge service. If Kevin is still there, just take his recommendations. I wish we had him this year. He will recommend the Tommy Dew walking tour. That is great. Have fun!
