South Carolina b-que

We are coming to Columbia for 2 nights in April. Where is the best place to get the regional beef or pork barbeque? Thank.

South Carolina b-que

South Carolina BBQ is pork. Regional BBQ sauce is mustard based...(just across the state line it%26#39;s vinegar based).

bbqman-no need to get ';snarky';. I am asking for help because we have never have had the pleasure of spending time in South Carolina. Excuse my blunder, how would I know SC b-que is pork based?

Carolinians take their BBQ seriously. Just so you know, BBQ in North and South Carolina is pork....slooooooowly smoked (usually w/ Hickory)...pulled or chopped served w/ slaw, hushpuppies, and tea. Sauces generally vary by region (mustard, vinegar)...really good BBQ doesn%26#39;t require a sauce. By the way...a %26#39;Q%26#39; is BBQ sandwich. Previous poster (bbqman) is clearly the expert on this subject.

Thank You NCgator. Interesting information.

The best BBQ in Columbia is found at Little Pigs. Maurice%26#39;s, a local chain, is not remarkable (except for the owner%26#39;s questionable beliefs). My second favorite would be Doc%26#39;s Barbeque (Shop Road), made by a great local caterer. Hudson%26#39;s Smokehouse was soggy and not flavorful. Palmetto Pig is supposed to be pretty good but I have heard too many bad reviews of the place. If you are ever in Cashiers, NC, check out Carolina Smokehouse (NOT the same as in Columbia), because it is by far the best I have ever had!!
