Pelican's Landing Shore Drive Section

Have been looking on VRBO for low-rise villa style accomodations %26amp; found several units in Pelican%26#39;s Landing or Pelican%26#39;s Watch.

We like the older style condos/villas, but still want to be in a nicely maintained complex.

I%26#39;ve stayed in several areas in Myrtle Beach, but never that far north, so I%26#39;m not at all familiar.

Any comments on this section of MB and/or this particular complex?

Bump....anybody?

Traffic going out on to 17 from this area can be very bad in the summer. The 2 major roads,Lake Arrowhead Drive and I believe Kings Road can really back up.One comes out at a light by the Galleria Shopping Center and the other at Walmart and Tanger Outlet.

But I just recently learned that there is another alternative that will get you out much quicker named Chestnut Road.Suggest you find it.

It%26#39;s been several years since we were at MB in June. We%26#39;ve been very spoiled by lighter traffic in September...I%26#39;ll have to remind my husband. T

Then again, maybe I shouldn%26#39;t mention it ;)

Thanks for the reminder %26amp; if we stay there we%26#39;ll check out the alternate routes.

Was really hoping someone has stayed at Pelican%26#39;s Landing. I%26#39;m always apprehensive when trying a new place. I%26#39;m a ';miss know-it-all'; type when it comes to hotels, but this condo thing is new for me. I had great luck in Sept. with VRBO but that was Surfside.

It%26#39;s been 2 years since my family stayed at Pelican%26#39;s Landing but I can reccomend this area. We have stayed at either Pelican%26#39;s Landing or Pelican%26#39;s Watch for 10 + years. It is an older complex but still kept in good shape. PW has a nicer pool than PL. That particular section of the Myrtle Beach strip (from Broadway at the Beach up to North Myrtle Beach and Barefoot Landing) can be congested in the summer but so is most of MB. It is a summer vacation spot for the masses.

If you like to golf, there are many course right around the PL and PW locations and you are short drives away from thousands of restarurants.

As far as the complex goes, they are simple 3 bedroom condos usually with 1 king an 2 sets of doubles or twins. Depending on the quality of the owner, the decor varies from unit to unit, but overall they are comfortable and have all the conveninces you need including central air which is nice in July and August.

The beach can get crowded in this area in the summer months but never so crowded that you are annoyed or put off. Plus you are a short walk down the beach to a nice beach bar (Ocean Annies at the Sands Club).

I can reccomend PW or PL.

Thank you Indy...I had just about given up on hearing from anyone who has stayed there!

I realize that the condos are individually owned, but if a property is well-maintained, the units are more likely to be up to par.

We have stayed on shore drive for the past 11 years and we love it! There is a lot there within walking distance or a very short drive. We did stay in Surfside last year and it was a little boring for the kids. It%26#39;s a great beach area tucked away. We stay at Pelicans Landing and have had good luck with the units but it all depends on the owners. The pictures they post have been accurate for us.

Thanks for the replies! I feel a little better now about the choice. Just sent the deposit yesterday.

Stayed at Surfside last fall %26amp; we loved it, but this summer we%26#39;re taking our ';kids';. They%26#39;re in their 20%26#39;s %26amp; we thought this location would be more central since they%26#39;ll probably be more interested in the nightlife than we are.

Shore Drive is a great place to go. We%26#39;ve stayed in the area six years and once down South of MB. The beaches are wideer at the Shore Drive area and very many families, grandparents, etc. When we stayed more South we went through a realtor and were so unhappy with the care of the unit. Whenever we have stayed in the Shore Drive area we%26#39;ve gone through private owners and have never been unhappy. Every year we%26#39;ve tried a different owner and each year has been great. There is a convenience store and other little stores right there (ice cream, pizza) and the Kroger and Walmart are right up the road. We are trying to decide this year if Pelican%26#39;s Watch or Landing would be better. Good luck, have a great vakay!
