Kiawah or Seabrook for a day trip???

Hello from Los Angeles. We are coming to Charleston for our first time in April. Would like to plan a day trip to either Kiawah or Seabrook. Which do you recommend? Our 4 year old will be with us. Also...are we allowed on those beaches if we are not staying at the resorts? How is parking? Is it true Kiawah is only open on Saturdays? What about Seabrook?

Steer us in the right direction.

Kiawah or Seabrook for a day trip???

I personally prefer Kiawah...here%26#39;s the link on beach info for Kiawah.

Happy Travels!

Kiawah or Seabrook for a day trip???

Both of these resorts are closed to the general public although Kiawah does have a pubic beach just before entrance to the resort. Seabrook is for residents and guest only. We stayed at Seabrook last fall and it is just lovely but is a 30 to 40 min. drive to Charleston which we made several times during our weekly stay but close to several of the plantations.

What is your objective - to see a resort or to walk on a nice beach, or to golf...??? I%26#39;ve stayed in Seabrook and been to Kiawah and would recommend them for many reasons, but most people don%26#39;t day trip to them, they stay there for a week or so and day trip to Charleston. Generally speaking, people who stay in Charleston day trip to one of the closer beaches or resorts like Folly, Sullivan%26#39;s Island, or Isle of Palms and the resort on IOP called Wild Dunes.

All of the beaches mentioned are family-friendly, but the April water temps are not warm enough for swimming (for most people). It won%26#39;t be until June that the water temps get into the 80%26#39;s.

Welcome to Charleston -you are sure to enjoy it!

The park on Kiawah is called Beachwalker Park (it%26#39;s a Charleston County Park, can%26#39;t remember if it%26#39;s even open in April, if it%26#39;s not, there%26#39;s a locked gate, so you can%26#39;t get to the parking lot, you may be able to check their website). As indicated above, Kiawah %26amp; Seabrook are not generally places for a day trip, each have guard gates and you will be turned around right there. Wonderful places, but you have to have reservations or be a property owner. Do have fun in Charleston, great city!!!

You can not ';day-trip'; to Seabrook Island. SI is a gated residential community. Its gate is guarded much more tightly than Kiawah%26#39;s first gate.

The only way to get on SI is to rent a home or villa (there are not hotels). You can get on Kiawah to have lunch or dinner.

Beachwalker Park is a public county park located outside the gate of Kiawah. I%26#39;m not sure want the hours are for April. The park may only be open on the weekends.
