How far from Patriots Point to Shem Creek?

How far are the restaurants on Shem Creek from the maritime museum at Patriots Point. We plan on taking the water taxi over to Patriots Point, visit the museum, then would like to have a late lunch on Shem Creek. Is this possible without a car? Thanks.

How far from Patriots Point to Shem Creek?

It is possible. It%26#39;s only about 1 1/2 miles and I believe that there are sidewalks the entire way. Along the way you%26#39;ll pass the ';famous'; Boulevard Diner (many many people have raved about this on TripAdvisor). You%26#39;ll know you%26#39;re close when you see the construction on the right hand side (the town is building a sort of ';creek walk';) and of course the bridge (small bridge really - especially after seeing the Ravenel Bridge!)

If you%26#39;re bus savvy -

On the way back to the city you can take the Bus number 40 - see the schedule and map at www.ridecarta.com You won%26#39;t have to walk all the way back to Patriot%26#39;s Point - there is a stop at McGrath-Darby at Coleman Blvd (Shem Creek is on Coleman but the Route 40 doesn%26#39;t go to Shem Creek as far as I know)

Just have correct change ready (or a ticket that I believe you can buy online).

If you%26#39;re not bus savvy - I%26#39;m happy to give pointers! I am proud to have done my part for the environment by being a daily bus commuter for years and always take buses in cities I%26#39;m visiting.

Oh- does Charleston have buses that burn clean fuel? The buses here spew out diesel exhaust that will choke you from a hundred feet away! LOL.

Thanks so much CultureHound. Just one more question on that area. Which streets in Mount Pleasant are considered the ';Old Village';.

Thanks again.

Rent a car and take your shoes off.

Mt. Pleasant%26#39;s Old Village can be found by crossing over the Shem Creek Bridge, continuing straight, road forks to the right, turn right on Venning. There is not much commercial enterprise in that area - mainly the restaurant ';The Old Village Post House'; and a handful of other businesses but most are not retail. Most retail establishments are on Coleman Blvd which is the road that you are on when you cross over Shem Creek. Coleman has a mix of standalone stores and boutiques, restaurants and strip centers, and big sections of Coleman are being re-developed (a school was torn down last year and a new one is being built; an old ugly strip center will soon be coming down and being replaced by ...??? I don%26#39;t know. Shem Creek itself is going to be more pedestrian-friendly as the town has a plan to make it more accessible while hopefully keeping it eco-friendly. The charm of the Old Village is in the old homes and the abundance of foliage - starting at around the creek area and continuing in the direction I mentioned.

Did I mention that Old Village Post House is at Pitt and Venning? (If you%26#39;re checking a map)

Sure you could take your shoes off (isn%26#39;t that illegal when you%26#39;re driving?) and drive, but how many things you%26#39;d miss! I guess I%26#39;m more of a ';smell the roses'; kind of person than most people.
