Hotels in Patriots Point

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Charleston in mid-April. We don%26#39;t plan on spending much time at the hotel except to sleep--we%26#39;re just looking for an affordable hotel option that won%26#39;t be too far of a drive from the historic center.

It seems as though Patriots Point might be a good base point. I did some shopping on a few sites...does anyone know anything about the Best Western, Red Roof Inn or Days Inn in Mount Pleasant, whether good or bad? The Courtyard by Marriott/Charleston North is also an option that came up. As I said, we just want a safe, relatively clean place to lay our heads each night.

Thanks for any help!

Hotels in Patriots Point

If you can get a good rate at the Shem Creek Inn, it%26#39;s well-situated and has good reviews. There is a brand-spanking new Courtyard Marriott in Mt. P as well that is a good location (though not as ';cool'; as Shem Creek%26#39;s location) We have many other hotels and motels, and by far if you have the option I%26#39;d pick Mt. P over North Charleston if you want convenience to Charleston, safety and things to do.

I don%26#39;t really have much experience with the motels you%26#39;ve mentioned (my husband stayed at RRI one day while everything else was booked but I don%26#39;t exactly trust his judgment on room cleanliness - :) ) but I can tell you I was very unhappy with the Master%26#39;s Inn.

ENJOY!

Hotels in Patriots Point

Well, KK, ya gots choices.... Patriots Point, Mt. Pleasant, even North Charleston are all OK, and, we%26#39;ve stayed at each, but, they%26#39;re get in the car, drive, find a place to park, do your thing, get back in the car, drive back to the hotel options. It may cost you more, but there are a number of hotels ';downtown'; that put you within walking distance of most of what you%26#39;ll want to do in Charleston.... there%26#39;s a Days Inn, Holiday Inn, Embassy Suites, Doubletree; there are boutiques (Andrew Pinckney, French Quarter Inn, etc)there are old (Mills House)and there%26#39;s real fancy (Renaissance, Charleston Place). Our preference has become to pay the extra money and stay in the historic district so that we don%26#39;t spend the time and effort driving back and forth.... here%26#39;s a link that may be helpful http://www.downtowncharlestonhotels.com/ and, I%26#39;m sure you can find reviews here on Trip Advisor... Charleston is a great place! Hope you have a great trip!

I second Shem Creek....We stayed there in August for $99 a night. It has a wonderful location for Patriot%26#39;s Point, downtown, or over to the beach. There are several restaurants that you can walk to.

And I 3rd :) Shem Creek Inn! We%26#39;ve stayed there twice for the $99 per night, creekside - it%26#39;s great! While there I would go over to Red%26#39;s (right across the creek) for some great beer and oysters, and a beautiful sunset!

We visited Charleston 2 weeks back and stayed at the Courtyard in Mt. Pleasant. Great hotel, clean and very friendly people. Just about 15 minutes drive from downtown.

Ate at Vickery%26#39;s in Shem Creek....OUT OF THE WORLD !. Great food, very friendly people, though we had t wait for almost 45 minutes becasue of the size of our party. It wasn%26#39;t their fault though, as the other large party ';had finished their dinner, but were not leaving';.

Have fun !.

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone, I really appreciate it! I may be picking your brains for restaurant recommendations, as well as places to go kayaking, in the future.

One question for those who got good rates at Shem Creek: Did you find the rates online, or by some other means? I keep hearing wonderful things about it and have read posts about people getting great rates, but the rates I%26#39;m seeing are all at least double that $99 price.

those rate for shem creek are winter rates thats why they are cheaper. April is a peak tourist month and costs alot more at most places. If you can book in Mt pleasant and avoid North Charleston if possible.

My husband and I spent the last week in February in Charleston and had a lovely time. I would highly recommend the Quality Inn and Suites at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant. We stayed from a Monday to a Thursday night (rates rise quite a lot on weekends) for $79 per night with a free breakfast. Large room, very clean, quiet, comfortable bed, friendly, helpful staff and only a very easy uncomplicated drive of about 10-15 minutes over the new bridge to historic Charleston. Make sure you phone the hotel directly to have a reservation - I found that you usually get a better rate and there is a cancellation policy of 24 hours before.

As well as Charleston, take a short drive to Sullivan%26#39;s Island (stop for a Starbucks coffee on the way) - we really loved the beach there. A great place for a gourmet hamburger lunch is a resto bar called Poe%26#39;s on Sullivan%26#39;s Island. For a special night out, splurge a little and go to Magnolia in Charleston- simply wonderful (the best seafood and grits in the city we were told - and they were right). We found a great cafe for lunch too on our way back from Magnolia Plantation (on Highway 61) (another must see) - it was called the Sunflower Cafe - very unassuming, not expensive - very good.

Have a wonderful trip - it is a special place and everything they say about ';southern hospitality'; is true!
