Family travel in May

We%26#39;re a family of 4 (two girls 13,9) and plan on being in HH in the middle of May. We%26#39;re planning on staying at Hilton Beachfront since I have points and can stay for free.

Question is how%26#39;s the weather in May? My girls have never been to a beach or even seen the ocean before so they are exited to go.

Also, any tips on who to use for dolphin tours and horseback riding?

Any must see%26#39;s and do%26#39;s on HHI and in Savannah?

Thanks

kkitelin: You will LOVE HHI. And you will LOVE the Hilton Oceanfront Resort. That is the only hotel we consider staying at when there. The rooms are huge and the kitchenette is a great addition. The beds are heavenly. There are two heated pools there, one family and one adult. There are two hot tubs as well. Being right on the ocean is great. You don%26#39;t mention how long your trip is for. There is lots to do but count on a real family holiday, no amusement parks, go-carts, rides, etc. We took our son (he was 14 last year) on the Stars %26amp; Stripes Sailboat Dolphin excursion. We wanted to do something we%26#39;ve never done before and he said it was the highlight of the trip. It runs out of Harbourtown Marina through Vagabond Cruises (I think) anyway, just google it. It%26#39;s a 65%26#39; sailboat, you are under full sail for 2 hours and the dolphins were swimming alongside. Amazing! We are back in Hilton Head, leaving Friday, for our school March Break. We want to do the Commander Zodiac Dolphin cruise this time. They really get up close and personal because of the size of the zodiac. It runs out of South Beach Marina. We did a dolphin kayak tour out of South Beach Marina as well. That was fun.

You MUST rent bikes. I would not suggest renting from the Hilton, they soak you. Rent from the outfitters on the righthand side in Palmetto Dunes, can%26#39;t think of their name. Maybe Palmetto Dunes outfitters. The whole family will have fun biking. Get locks and baskets and enjoy riding on the beach. The dolpins can be seen from shore. You can ride everywhere due to the bike paths. They are very family friendly in HH. There is Lawton Stables in Sea Pines. There is also riding at Moss Creek Stables (off the island in Bluffon) but it is english riding, not western, I believe. The pics of horseback riding on the beach you see for HHI just doesn%26#39;t happen. I think you can on Daufuskie Island but that is mega bucks and you have to pay for a ferry ride over too. Wild Wing near Coligny Plaza is great for wings, especially on Tuesday, they are 1/2 price. Fuddruckers is fun. The Wreck of the Salty Dog and Salty Dog Cafe are popular spots at the South Beach Marina. There are two Tanger Outlets off the island. They have an Abercrombie/Fitch outlet, Hollister and are getting an American Eagle, if your girls are into that. Our son is. The TJ Maxx is good too.

The Hilton has an outdoor ping pong table set up in the courtyard. They also have a new gas campfire outside to sit around in the courtyard. There is a basketball net. We take cheapy flashlights and walk the beach at night with our son. It%26#39;s so beautiful, safe and a makes for a lovely time on the beach. Be sure to get a good grip on where you are and what your beach access point is because everything looks the same at night. Coligny Plaza in Forest Beach has lots of shops and restaurants and is right across the road from the beach. There are bathsuit shops and stuff girls like.

Hope this helps. Just ask.

D in Muskoka. I%26#39;m sure this will become your new favourite place to go like it is ours. And we%26#39;re willing to drive 19 hours to get there!!!

Thanks for your post. We will be there for 4nts. We actually found a great airfare flying into Jacksonville and we%26#39;ll rent a car and drive up. We really didn%26#39;t want to do the 17hr drive from KC.

Also, is the shell hunting any good? Our 9yr old really wants to do some shell hunting.

Also, how about affordable seafood????

Thanks again.

kkitelin, the weather in May is BEAUTIFUL!!! We go every year in the second week and LOVE the weather. Normally between 75-82 and not very much humidity! Hope you enjoy your vacation. Check back after your trip and let us know how you liked it.
