Charleston Ecotour-1 day canoe/kayak/hike? Or island?

I%26#39;ll be in Charleston 3/31-4/4, 3 whole days tues-thurs, have ticket for Church St evening house/garden tour 4/1. No car. Thinking about Tommy Dew walking tour, maybe Gullah tour Alphonso Brown, theatre: Greater Tuna at Charleston Stage Company. Anything going on at college? Thinking I will stay in city with 1 plantation trip Tues + Thurs packing a lot in. Don%26#39;t usually like to overschedule but 1st time visit + alone, want to see a lot. On Wednesday I%26#39;d like to get out into nature + be active, any suggestions? Canoe, kayak? Don%26#39;t want sightseeing cruise + solo so not sure those expensive charter boats to lighthouse island right for me even though sand dollars sound lovely.

I think a great hike to Morris Island Lighthouse would fit into your schedule fine. Kayak or canoe trips would take more time and you will not be in the area for too long. If you go to Folly Beach and park at the farthest public parking lot (left at light in front of the Holiday Inn), you can walk either down the beach or through the old Coast Guard station to a very beautiful and undeveloped beach area.

Use this link to find out what%26#39;s going on during your stay. It is constantly updated so if it doesn%26#39;t look like much now, check back in another week.

Unless you get there at a really low tide, don%26#39;t plan on walking to the Morris Island lighthouse. Don%26#39;t know what charter boat cruises go there???

Do look at the Charleston County Parks website for possible kayak/canoe trips, although most of theirs are at least 1/2 day. Try Coastal Expeditions out of Shem Creek for harbor kayak tours, which may be only 2 hrs. or so.

Good Luck! Beth

You cannot actually walk up to the lighthouse but can view the beautiful old building from a couple of hundred yards off shore. Also, the walk continues around the lighthouse in an arc shape with the peninsula of Charleston easily viewed in the distance.

Thanks, I talked yesterday to nice people at Nature Adventure Outfitters about a 2 or 3 1/2 kayak trip ';Wambaw'; Trail in Francis Marion National Park. Guide would pick me up in the city for extra $20. Also Barrier Island Eco Tours has morning + also sunset boat ride to Caper Island but I%26#39;d have to get myself (via blackcab was suggested) to Isle Palms Marina. Any experience with these trips/outfits?
