Attending step sons army graduation

Just wondering what there is to go and do there while we are there. Also, are there any nice places close by to go and eat at? What is the weather usually like in mid April? Thanks

The weather here in Columbia is generally very nice in April (70%26#39;s). Of course, the weather is unpredictible. Obviously, could get some rain, but generally very warm during the day and a little cooler at night (maybe need a sweater).

Columbia has a very nice zoo located on Greystone Blvd. just off I-126 called The Riverbanks Zoo. There are also three historic homes that are open to the public for tours in downtown Columbia, if you like doing that sort of thing.

Bring clothes that will allow for lots of layering -- adding and/or losing layers as the day progresses is the best strategy for weather like Columbia%26#39;s.

I always see lots of Army families at the chain places around Fr. Jackson -- Outback, for example. But the locally owned places downtown are very good, and, if you have a car with you, it%26#39;s about a 15 minute drive.

The SC State Museum on Gervais St. and the Columbia Art Museum on Main St. are both worth a trip. :) And I second the Riverbanks Zoo recommendation.

I recommend a local Italian restaurant that is about two miles or so from the fort, depending on your location on base. It is Moe%26#39;s Grapevine, http://www.moesgrapevine.com. It does get very busy on weekend nights. You may also want to visit http://www.free-times.com and search for activities during the time of your visit. Last, the Columbia Visitors Bureau has lots of information about the area: http://www.columbiacvb.com. I hope you enjoy your stay!
