Myrtle or Hilton Head? Family with older kids

We are a family of 6 with older kids - boys 22,22, 21,16. The 21yo is coming back mid-Aug from his Iraq deployment and thought a family trip to MB or HH would be nice. I have lots of past experience with MB as a kid myself and when our family was much younger with the most recent visit in 2001. Looking for oceanfront resort, restaurants, golf, bars/clubs for older kids at night where they can flirt with girls. Which of the two places would you recommend or those of you with just HH experience with older kids I would like to hear if HH meets what we are looking for.

I originally did not even consider HH as I thought the drive was significantly longer but since we will be picking up one of the kids along the way, the detour makes HH actually 5 miles shorter than MB.

Thanks.

This is definitely more MB%26#39;s turf, FYI.

While I am not a big fan of MB due to its tacky nature, I think your boys would also enjoy the House of Blues at Barefoot Landing. You can go online and see what%26#39;s playing when you are there and order tickets online. We went to MB for a week over Xmas vacation 2006 and took our son (14 at the time) to an Edwin McCain concert at HOB and we really enjoyed it. The Hardrock Cafe at Broadway at the Beach is neat, shaped like a pyramid inside and out.

D in Muskoka.

Well with that many you might look into just south of Myrtle Beach where all the houses are if you are planning on staying a week. Still close to the action for the kids but a more family atmosphere for the adults. If less than that there are numerous options. If you want a quieter location, head towards North Myrtle into North Myrtle might be good. Hilton Head is much quieter and probably not much to do for teens/young adults. Myrtle has more action including the opening of the new Hard Rock park come spring. Probably will be a lot of concerts this summer.

Hate to say it but with your kids being those ages they will definitely be happier in MB. The stip is crazy in MB and non-existant in HHI. My 20 loves HH but he hasn%26#39;t been to MB. I grew up going there every spring break and I think it has just gone way down hill- too tacky- but that being said it%26#39;s probably perfect for young guys looking for fun- just be careful!:)

Myrtle does have a lot, but there is some nightlife in Hilton Head. I have been there with teen and some a little older. They spent a lot of time at the Tiki Hut during the day playing volleyball. At night, the Wild Wing and Hincheys both had a lot going on. They always found something to do. It is quieter than Myrtle though.

Again, depending on the kids, seems to me that tennis, golf, kayaking, riding bikes on the beach to see who is faster~ the bike or the dolphin, and volleyball games are great ';regrouping'; times. Captain Woody%26#39;s... we were told by the local younger staff is where they go and hang after their work. Red Hot Mama%26#39;s and HHI brewery I understand is a pretty young crowd after the dinner crowd goes home. Pool tables and beer pong seem to be the standard fare.

IMO is easier to have a family vacation in HH then MB... less flash and more family.

Thank your son for his service.
