home and garden shows

I can%26#39;t wait to hear about the homes and gardens this year ... CultureHound, I can tell I will get some great general info from you... do you think Two Meeting st. will be a good place for about 12 gals to stay.. ? We want to spend between 2 - 300 per night /room. Any other ideas for fun places to go , good shops (arts and crafts) , eats? Thanks, I love having new travel to plan and look forward to! Loui30

That would be my choice if I came to the city to enjoy the homes and gardens, but I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ll be able to book that much space together, esp if you come at a busy time.

If you run into booking issues, try the Mills House.

Oh - and I will write back on this forum later but everyone on here gives great advice! I think that%26#39;s why I%26#39;m on here so much! More later.. :)

For now - check the ';Things to Do'; for ';1,2,3 day itineraries'; and ';Tours'; and look at the Restaurant links.

Two Meeting Street is wonderful, but it has only 9 guest rooms. As I understand it, all but one of those nine is furnished with only one queen bed. Also, while all room rates will be high during the Houses and Gardens Tours, you will have a better chance of staying withing your budget at one of the larger hotels.

I agree with CultureHound that The Mills House could work very well for your group. Although it is a larger hotel (i.e not a converted home), it has loads of charm and elegance. The Mills House is also very centrally located to restaurants and entertainments. The elegant King Street shops and galleries are just around the corner, and the City Market is only two blocks away. Check the website at - www.millshouse.com

Thanks Kiawah - for Loui%26#39;s trip it does seem more logical indeed to try the Mills House. I totally agree.

Loui - You will love the Mills House location, the decor, the fact that it has its own restaurant, is next to 2 really popular places and only a short walk from dozens of antique shops, other shopping and great restaurants. It%26#39;s ideal, really, but Charleston does indeed have many such gems.

Just in case you haven%26#39;t seen the link for the House and Garden tours, here is the calendar... historiccharleston.org/news_events/festival_鈥?/a> for this year.

As far as other things, what we%26#39;ve said before - carriage ride, harbor cruise, just walking around, historic tour with a guide, perhaps a ghost tour and visiting some plantations like Boone Hall, Middleton Place, Magnolia or Drayton would all be awesome. Check the ';Things To Do'; for ideas. Enjoy the planning! :)
