Where is the best location to stay on the island?

First visit to Edisto will be in August, 08. Cannot decide where on the island would be the best place to rent? North, South, The Point. They all look beautiful! We want views of the ocean and will spend most days on the beach. Have teens traveling with us as well. Any areas to stay away from? Any suggestions?? Appreciate your input!

Best views of the ocean are,of course, in oceanfront accomodations. If you want to be guaranteed an ocean view, make sure you rent a house labeled ';oceanfront'; or ';beachfront.'; If money is no object, I would try to rent an oceanfront house on the Point. You will have easy access to both beautiful sunrises (over the Atlantic Ocean to your north) and beautiful sunsets (over St. Helena Sound, a short walk to the south). Beware of homes advertised as ';beach view'; or ';ocean view.'; These are actually across the street from the beach; you will have a row of oceanfront homes (many of which are quite large) between you and the ocean. In many of them, you would have to stand on the roof to get a good view of the ocean. Houses marked in the brochures as ';beach walk'; are generally anywhere from 1/2 to 2 blocks from the beach itself.

Thanks for the info. If we do stay across the street from the beach, is there an issue crossing the street? I mean, how busy is Palmetto Blvd in August? Thanks!

relax! edisto is pedestrian friendly, and traffic should be minimal. enjoy your visit, an i hope you find bunches of shark teeth!
