we will be in Charleston Mon-Fri mid- April and wondered if driving to Savannah for a day is worth the effort? or maybe Beaufort? any thoughts, anyone? thanks!

Beaufort would be my vote for a 1-day trip for 2 reasons - it%26#39;s small and can be done in a day and it%26#39;s at least 1/2 hour closer (oh - a 3rd reason - parking is SOOOOOO easy = no fuss!) See my report on a day trip to Beaufort in the Beaufort forum. I LOVE that town! :)

Regardless of where you go, please heed this warning: If you are travelling down Hwy 17 towards either Beaufort or Savannah, you need to watch your speed and don%26#39;t get impatient. There are parts of this drive that are 45mph and it is ENFORCED. Just take your time and enjoy the ride.
