need to rent a beach house

Myself and 3 or 4 more girlfriends (we are in our early 40%26#39;s) who just like to travel together are thinking of renting a beach house in the Charleston or Savannah area. We have never been to this area, but would love to rent a house on the beach. I would very much appreciate any thoughts on the best area - I%26#39;ve heard Hilton Head is overrated and expensive. We just want to tour Charleston/Savannah during the day, party some at night, and relax on a porch overlooking the ocean. We will be there for a week sometime in June. Thanks in advance for any information you can give me, including any websites/phone numbers for renting a beach house and any activities.

If you are not interested in ';night-life';, I%26#39;d recommend Kiawah or Seabrook Island. Both are a 30-45 minute drive from downtown Charleston; neither has a club on its island. As a matter of fact, there isn%26#39;t even a hotel on SI (it is all residential). Other nearby islands are Isle of Palms (Wild Dunes); Sullivan%26#39;s.

Normally, I%26#39;d suggest renting through an owner. But this late in the booking season, I%26#39;m going to recommend using one of the large rental companies. You%26#39;ll pay more, but the rental company will do the searching for available properties. Resortquest.com; Kiawahexclusives.com; and Seabrookexclusives.com should be able to help.

Another helpful tip, most folks book anywhere from 4-12 months in advance. Don%26#39;t panic if you can%26#39;t find ';beach-front';; a lot of great homes are located within a 5-10 minute walk to the beach.

Feel free to email offline for more info. Counting the days til my next beach escape;-)

OurGreatEscape is correct that most properties will already be booked for June. However, you may luck out with a cancelation.

In additon to Kiawah and Seabrook, consider Edisto Island and Fripp Island, both of which are between Charleston and Savannah. Also, I would not rule out Hilton Head. HHI is a large island with a lot of variety in accommodations. You might find exactly what you want on HHI.

Thanks so much! We may need to revise our plans and just go the hotel route, but I appreciate your time in answering me!

Hi Poter,

Two of my friends and I rented a cottage here:

%26lt;a href=';http://www.belvidereclub.com/'; target=';_blank';%26gt;The Belvidere Club%26lt;/a%26gt;

two Octobers ago.

The accomodations are in Mt. Pleasant, right on the water and have two bedrooms, two baths and a LOVELY screened in porch. They overlook the city and Ft. Sumpter.

Now, they ARE extremely pricey but with a group your size it could be manageable. We loved our stay!

Sorry for the weird looking link; I%26#39;ve yet to figure out how to make a link actually work on TA :(

Try the web site for Folly Beach. You will be close to Charleston (15- minute drive) for night life, and you will have the ocean during the day. there are many houses, condos, etc. for rent. Dunes Properties, Fred Holland, Folly Island Realty are a few places to check.

Oh do NOT use Fred Holland! My husband and I had a horrible experience with them! Incorrect/double billing. The property had a flea infestation, broken furniture and underwear left from the tenants. It took the company 2 days to fix the broken light bulbs and when we complained to the BBB, they pretended to have never heard of us. Thank goodness we had kept the contract. 2 of them, in fact, since they could never spell our name correctly. An awful, awful experience!

If your wanting to visit both cities Hilton Head would be your best bet. I would try the rentals by owner sites. HHI has a beautiful beach and plenty of places for nightlife. Kiawah and Seabrook are a little more pricey than HHI and not much nightlife after 10. Im sure you can find a place that will fit your needs on HHI. If you cant find a owner rental give the folks at Island Getaways on HHI a call.

OK, you want a great experience.... check out this house, surprisingly still available in June!

Oceanfront with a large deck and pool out your front door....

I%26#39;ve stayed here. It is great!

I just realized your post was from LAST year!
